Outreach Specialist - Individual Placement Member

Various Locations, MN

The AmeriCorps Individual Placement positions (ages 18-30) are based at various locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Under the direct guidance of a project supervisor, the corpsmember will assist with a variety of projects to expand the capacity and reach of the partner agency. See specific position descriptions for greater detail before applying. Up to 15-20% of the service term is dedicated to technical and personal skills training.

This is a full-time commitment for a year-long AmeriCorps service term. The member will receive a monthly stipend and an education award upon successful completion of the term that may be used for education expenses or to repay qualified student loans.
 
Term dates and schedule:

  • Term: January - December 2025
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm typical. Some evenings or weekends may be required.  

Location: Housing is not provided by the Corps. Member must secure their own housing near service location.

Open Positions: 

Outreach Specialist Positions

Legacy Outreach Specialist (located in Saint Paul, MN):  The purpose of this position is to strategize, support, and implement ways to include the public in decision-making processes regarding use of the MN DNR Parks and Trails Legacy Funds and to support efforts of the Parks and Trails Legacy Advisory Committee to advance the 25-year Parks and Trails Legacy Plan.

Communications Outreach Specialist (located in Saint Paul, MN): The purpose of the Communications Outreach Specialist is to assist with development and improvement of the DNR’s Scientific and Natural Areas (SNA) Program and Native Prairie Bank (NPB) Outreach Initiatives relating to communications, primarily social media and email marketing.

Aquatic Invasive Species Communications Specialist (located in Saint Paul, MN): This position serves to build the capacity of important public service work at the DNR in the Division of Ecological and Water Resources Aquatic Invasive Species Program. This position will primarily serve to assist in communications and outreach needs of the invasive species program. 

Agriculture and Outreach Specialist (located in Windom, MN):  Provides assistance to the MAWQCP certification process which may include farm water quality assessments, field visits and data collection, producer and/or landowner interviews service and groundwater monitoring programs, wetland and watercourse inventories and assessments; prepare documents for cost-share and easement programs; conduct field surveys and site inspections and prepare reports; and coordinate and conduct educational programs and activities.

Web Specialist (Located in St. Paul, MN): This position will assist with the development, growth and daily management of the public website, Intranet and other digital media for the MN DNR Parks and Trails Division. The individual will also be involved in the preparation to develop a digital photo management system.

Marketing Specialist (Located in St. Paul, MN): The position will assist the parks and trails Marketing Coordinator in evaluating, researching, and implementing updates for the Hiking and Passport Clubs. IP will also provide support on various marketing initiatives.

Volunteer Outreach Specialist (Located in St. Paul, MN): The member will support MN Plant Watch efforts by assisting with volunteer outreach and training, creating newsletters or plant identification tip sheets, and teaching volunteers data collection methods and organizing training events. The member will also assist with data collection and management as well as creating maps for volunteer assignments, data entry, revising field protocols, and lab projects like cleaning seeds for long-term banking. 

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing plans, work, and weather conditions
  • Commitment to upholding Corps values of safety, justice, stewardship, community and leadership.
  • Dedication to complete the full term of AmeriCorps service
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI’s in the past five years)
  • Preferred: College coursework and/or degree in a relevant field

Requirements:

  • 18-30 years old.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the US
  • Must pass a criminal history check consisting of a National Sex Offender Public Website check, a state criminal history check, and a fingerprint-based FBI check. Passing the criminal history check is defined as no positive hits on the NSOPW and no history of violent offenses on the state or FBI checks.
  • High school degree, GED, or willingness to work towards obtaining a GED
