Water Specialist - Individual Placement Member

Various Locations, MN

The AmeriCorps Individual Placement positions (ages 18-30) are based at various locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Under the direct guidance of a project supervisor, the corpsmember will assist with a variety of projects to expand the capacity and reach of the partner agency. See specific position descriptions for greater detail before applying. Up to 15-20% of the service term is dedicated to technical and personal skills training.

This is a full-time commitment for a year-long AmeriCorps service term. The member will receive a monthly stipend and an education award upon successful completion of the term that may be used for education expenses or to repay qualified student loans.
 
Term dates and schedule:

  • Term: January - December 2025
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm typical. Some evenings or weekends may be required.  

Location: Housing is not provided by the Corps. Member must secure their own housing near service location.

Open Positions: 

Water Specialist Positions

Water Monitoring Specialist (located in Saint Paul, MN) - FILLED This position serves to build the capacity of important public service work at the DNR in the Division of Ecological and Water Resources Aquatic Invasive Species Program. This position will primarily serve to assist in water monitoring which includes stream flow measurement, hydrologic equipment installation, surveying, assisting well drilling, data entry, and processing.  

Aquatic Invasive Species Specialist (located in Saint Paul, MN): - FILLED This position serves to build the capacity of important public service work at the DNR in the Division of Ecological and Water Resources Aquatic Invasive Species Program under the guidance of the Invasive Species Specialist. This position will primarily serve to assist in the prevention of the spread and promotion of management of invasive species. Activities include data collection, physical and biological lake investigations, aquatic surveys, pre and post herbicide treatment evaluations, and data entry.

Aquatic Plant Management Specialist (located in Saint Paul, MN): This position serves in the MN DNR to support the Aquatic Plant Management team in permitting, site inspections, pesticide inspections, and plant surveys related to aquatic plant control.

Clean Water Specialist (located in Maplewood, MN): This position will assist with terrestrial invasive species, aquatic invasive species monitoring and prevention, soil health projects, and gather input on best practices and provide education materials on water resources.

Clean Water Specialist (Located in Carlton County, MN): The member will assist in water monitoring projects across the region as well as the installation and maintenance of various projects ranging from pollinator planting, to invasive species removal, to shoreline restoration.  Additionally, the member will be assisting with are general outreach and media creation including event promotion through various media channels.


Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing plans, work, and weather conditions
  • Commitment to upholding Corps values of safety, justice, stewardship, community and leadership.
  • Dedication to complete the full term of AmeriCorps service
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI’s in the past five years)
  • Preferred: College coursework and/or degree in a relevant field

Requirements:

  • 18-30 years old.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the US
  • Must pass a criminal history check consisting of a National Sex Offender Public Website check, a state criminal history check, and a fingerprint-based FBI check. Passing the criminal history check is defined as no positive hits on the NSOPW and no history of violent offenses on the state or FBI checks.
  • High school degree, GED, or willingness to work towards obtaining a GED
