The AmeriCorps Individual Placement positions (ages 18-35) are based at various locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Under the direct guidance of a project supervisor, the Specialist will assist with a variety of projects to expand the capacity and reach of the partner agency. See specific position descriptions for greater detail before applying. Up to 15-20% of the service term is dedicated to technical and personal skills training.

This is a full-time commitment for the AmeriCorps service term. The member will receive a monthly stipend and an education award upon successful completion of the term that may be used for education expenses or to repay qualified student loans. Members are directly supervised by Conservation Corps program staff and project advisor. Members serve in a single placement setting with a partnering government organization. Members complete service projects with direction provided by partnering agencies and representatives of those agencies.

Positions: 

Invasive Plant Management Specialist (St. Croix Falls, WI)
Dates: May 28 -November 22, 2024
Housing: Not provided. Member will need to secure own housing near site location.
Schedule: During the travel season members will serve in a compressed schedule of Wed to Wed 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. Outside of the normal field season members will work Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  
Location/Travel: While the position is based in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, field season travel up to 12 National Parks located in Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin (Late April to Mid-October) will be extensive (up to 60 days of travel throughout the summer). Travel and per diem expenses will be covered.

• The AmeriCorps Invasive Plant Management Specialists placed with the National Park Service is based at the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway headquarters in St. Croix Falls, WI, located approximately 1-hour northeast of the Minneapolis, St. Paul metro area. Primary duties will support high park priority invasive plant management and vegetation restoration practices in the Great Lakes Invasive Plant Management Team Network of National Parks.  Specialists will assist with manual and chemical plant control, native plant seeding/planting, equipment maintenance, data collection, data QAQC, report writing, identification of native and nonnative plants, outreach and education, and management planning.  Specialists must be able to safely operate power and hand tools, chainsaws, small equipment, and trucks pulling trailers. 

• This position will assist the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Drill Core Library to gather, inventory, and curate materials such as bedrock and earthen material core samples. There will be opportunities to learn how to utilize data collection and management about historic and recent drills using GIS technology and capture imaging.

Aquatic Invasive Species Specialist (St. Paul, MN) - 2 Positions
Dates: May 28 - November 22, 2024 or May 28 - August 22, 2024
Housing: No housing provided. Member will need to secure own housing near site location.
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm
Location/Travel: Local and regional travel may be required during the service term.

• The Conservation Corps Minnesota (Corps) Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Specialist position is an AmeriCorps position based at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This position serves to build the capacity of important public service work at the DNR in the Division of Ecological and Water Resources Aquatic Invasive Species program Under the guidance of MN DNR and U of M project advisors, this position will primarily serve to assist in the prevention of the spread and promotion of management of invasive species. Activities include data collection, mapping and AIS field work related to invasive species monitoring, verification, and early detection surveys.  This position may also provide corps members with opportunities in outdoor recreation and outreach.

• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats
• Creative thinking and problem solving
• College coursework and/or degree in a relevant field

Requirements:

• 18-35 years old.
• Must be a US Citizen, US National or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the US.
• Must pass the National Sex Offender Public Registry and criminal history check. “Pass” is defined as no positive hits on the NSOPR and no history of violent offenses on the criminal history check.
• Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI’s in the past five years).
