YMCA Community Connections Corpsmember

The Community Connections Corpsmember will be placed with YMCA Omaha to support the Youth Initiative, Let’s Move! Outside Community Coordinator by connecting youth, families, veterans and entire communities to public lands through outdoor recreation, educational programming, service projects and employment training opportunities. The Corpsmember will develop partnerships with municipalities, non-profit organizations, schools, health care providers and other stakeholders to help young people develop strong, lasting connections to nature and public lands, and develop leadership opportunities for the next generation of environmental stewards. Service activities will involve planning and implementation, outreach to community groups, meetings to establish partnerships, promoting programming that connects youth to the outdoors and facilitating outings on public lands.
 
Term dates and schedule:
  • Term: May 15, 2017 – May 10, 2018
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. typical
 
Stipend and award:
  • Monthly stipend: $1690
  • Education award: $5775 upon successful completion of term
 
Location: Housing is not provided by the Corps. Member must secure their own housing near service location.

Qualifications:
  • Positive attitude and strong commitment to service and community work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills as well as strong organizational and word processing skills.
  • Experience with social media marketing (websites, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
  • Experience working with children and youth in outdoor settings.
  • Experience communicating and working with diverse community members.
  • Relevant coursework in youth development, environmental education, English, journalism, public relations, communications or related field of study and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience or education with natural resource management is not required; 15-20% of the service term is dedicated to technical and personal-skills training.
 
Requirements:
  • 18-25 years old.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the US.
  • Must pass the National Sex Offender Public Registry and criminal history check. “Pass” is defined as no positive hits on the NSOPR and no history of violent offenses on the criminal history check.
  • Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
