Soil and Water Corpsmember
AmeriCorps Soil and Water Corpsmembers (ages 18-25) serve alongside a natural resource professional in a Minnesota Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), learning hands-on skills in managing soil and water resources. Management projects may include service and groundwater monitoring, wetland and watercourse inventories and assessments, preparation for cost-share and easement programs, field surveying and site inspections, and coordinating educational programs. Corpsmembers may also communicate with local landowners to develop management plans, gather input on best practices and provide education materials on water resources.
Service activities will occur in both an office and outdoors setting, in all weather conditions and across all terrain. This is a full-time commitment for a summer AmeriCorps service term. Corpsmembers will receive a monthly stipend and an education award upon successful completion of the term that may be used for education expenses or to repay qualified student loans.
